When a speaker was invited into his World Issues class six years ago, the challenge that came with this guest sparked a class project that changed the course of Adam McKim’s life. He is now the founder and volunteer Executive Director of CHAT to the Future – a registered education charity in Canada that empowers students, using empathy and technology, to develop global citizens and social entrepreneurs. He has been teaching high school social studies courses for thirteen years.
Adam is married and has three daughters: ages 9 and identical twin 7s. He has a Master Degree in Educational Leadership and volunteered on the board of the New Brunswick Teachers’ Association for six years (serving as their elected vice president for one year). He has presented at multiple PD sessions, including as a keynote speaker for the 2016 STEM Educator Symposium in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He also sits on the board of the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation.
Adam believes that modern technology can and should connect students around the world, even those who live in developing countries. The world is succeeding in the fight against extreme poverty and he wants more people to know that fact -- to be motivated by the momentum. CHAT (Care and Hope through the Adoption of Technology) works with schools across North America and has spread its message through videos made by PBS, Skype, and various news organizations. Adam believes that, if enough people become global citizens, this generation can and will be the one to relegate extreme poverty to the dustbin of history.
Adam resides in Saint John, New Brunswick and is currently teaching World Issues and Canadian Law. He enjoys movie dates with his wife, playgrounds with his dog/kids, and reading lots and lots of non-fiction.
